Join the conversation Here’s how to contribute…

Welcome to the NEIGHBOURHOOD, and thank you in advance. Our contributors are the paper – we wouldn’t exist without you. We don’t have a house style or uniform ‘voice’, and we don’t plan on having one. The idea is to give our contributors – you – a platform to share your many different voices and showcase your ideas.

WRITERS

Send short pitches and draft submissions to hello@neighbourhoodpaper.com. We will reply to all pitches and submissions, but it might take us a while. Pitches can simply be written in the body of an email. In the case of draft submissions, please follow the guidelines below.

  • Draft submissions should be emailed as an attachment to hello@neighbourhoodpaper.com, with the word “submission” somewhere in the subject. If you are submitting more than one piece of work, please send each piece in a separate document.
  • Your submission should be in an easy-to-read, 12pt font (such as Avenir, Arial or Times New Roman). Text should be left justified, and paragraphs should be double spaced.
  • In the header of your document, please include your name, email, phone number and the title of your piece.
  • In your email, make it clear which section of NEIGHBOURHOOD you are writing for. See below for a guide to each of the sections. (N.B. The word limits below are for the print edition. For online contributions word limits are much more flexible if the piece calls for it.)

PHOTOGRAPHERS / VIDEOGRAPHERS

There are a couple of ways for photographers to be part of NEIGHBOURHOOD. If you’re a pro, please send your portfolio or showreel to hello@neighbourhoodpaper.com with the subject “NEIGHBOURHOOD Photography/Videography” and we’ll be sure to pass it on to our Art Director. From there, we may get in touch to commission you to craft visual content for various articles, OR assign you to create a gallery of work for the publication or on our website.

If you have a beautiful Instagram feed, then we would love to include you in our FOOTPATH section. Footpath is a page of visual letters to the editor. Each edition we will reprint images based on a theme or location. It’s a way for you, our neighbours, to show us what is going on in your lives, a window into the soul of the city. Tag your snaps with #NEIGHBOURHOODpaper for the chance to appear in Footpath.
